Networking is the best way to get clients when you're first starting out. This includes going to networking events that your potential clients are at or working your contacts.

Two reasons:

1. Marketing is a new skill and there's lots to learn.

2. For consultants and coaches - we are the brand. What we'll selling is ourselves. AND that, my friend, is VERY vulnerable!

Not gonna lie - it's not easy.

Three tips to get you started:

• Write TO your clients in 2nd person at the 8th grade level
• Pay attention to the words your clients use and use those words
• Decide your own timeline on when it makes sense for you to make this shift. You may want to work with my copywriting team to get your website launched faster and build your copywriting skills over time.

You can start your business without a website. If you choose to go that route, make sure you optimize your LinkedIn profile with clear language of how you can help your clients, high quality images and social proof.

That said, if you don't invest in a website at some point your results will be capped. You'll have a hard time shaping the market's thinking that you're a premium brand worth premium fees without a credible website.

Connect with people who get what you're trying to accomplish, understand your fears and can provide you real help.

Unfortunately, your former work colleagues, friends and even your loved ones don't get it.

But your fellow consulting and coaching business owners do.
